Botox is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the United States, and has been in demand more than ever in 2018. Before you book an appointment for your session though, here are 3 important things to keep in mind.
A lot of people go for Botox treatments thinking that they’ll walk out of the clinic with their skin looking noticeably younger and fresher. While it’s true that the effects are quick, it will take a few days for you to be able to see them.
In most cases, the time span is between 3–5 days. However, it can take up to two weeks for the effects to become noticeable and for the results to fully kick in. This varies from person to person and depends on their metabolism and muscle movement. Thus, you can most probably make your appearance at the office party next week looking younger and energetic, but if you were planning on making it straight to your dinner date after the session, you might want to reschedule your appointment.
Patients sometimes experience mild redness, soreness, and swelling post treatment. Individuals may observe their face looking a little red and blotchy after their session, but this fades away soon. Some people also experience mild bruising, which is another common after effect and nothing to be worried about. All of these effects depend on how sensitive the skin is and how it is likely to react to being injected at a few points. The bruising and the redness subside within 2–3 days, however, and the person is then able to enjoy the results of the Botox.
There usually aren’t any other side effects of Botox apart from a little bruising and swelling. However, if you experience a persistent headache or nausea following your treatment, it’s best to get in touch with your practitioner.
Patients are advised to not engage in exercise or get a facial or massage for at least 24 hours after the session. They’re also advised to stay in an upright position for the next four hours following the treatment and not lay down during that time. This helps ensure that they get maximum results that can last longer.
The effects of Botox tend to last for up to 3–4 months, depending on the person’s metabolism rate and muscle movement, and proper care must be taken after the procedure to make sure the treatment takes full effect.
